State of Docs live: what 2026 taught us and what 2027 will ask of your docs

This year's State of Docs report found that documentation has become knowledge infrastructure. AI assistants, coding agents and MCP servers now read your docs alongside your users, and 70% of teams say AI shapes how they structure content, up from 31% last year.
Some problems haven't moved, though. Keeping docs in sync with the product is still the biggest challenge by a wide margin. Most teams use AI every day, but fewer than half have guidelines for it. And many still can't show what their docs are worth to the business.
In our last webinar of 2026, we'll go through what the research showed, where teams are getting stuck, and what we expect 2027 to bring for docs teams. They'll also show how GitBook is building for that shift, from keeping docs in sync with your code to making them readable by AI and measuring how they're used.
